When operating a squirrel cage induction motor, the starting current is large and becomes several times bigger at full load. The torque is small despite the large current, which adversely affects other loads such as voltage drop. So it is used for the purpose of suppressing current during operation or increasing torque. It is classified into 3 minutes, 5 minutes, and 7 minutes according to the characteristics of the driving motor, and the device is calculated according to the capacity of the motor.

Its purpose is for limiting the line current and reducing the short-circuit current of power receiving equipment as well as for removing harmonic content in power capacitors and limiting excessive inrush current. Therefore, it is used to limit inrush current when power capacitor is turned on, prevent crushing of voltage shape, prevent malfunction of relay due to harmonic current, and reduce short-circuit capacity of power receiving equipment.
